Songs of Salford
A collection of Salford musicians, forged in its neighbourhoods and communities, are coming together to tell the story of the city.
Salford-based Creative Producers From The Other have invited music producer and songwriter Charlie Deakin-Davies to collaborate with six artists with a connection to the city. Together they are creating a new body of music that reflects life in Salford in 2026.
The artists are: pioneer of UK underground hip-hop, Strategy; classically-trained vocalist and pianist, Salo; and spoken work artist, The Thirsty Poet, AKA Matt Concannon. Alongside rapper Che3kz, who works with young people at Salford’s Youth Zone; Zimbabwean-born songwriter & poet, Meduulla, who studied at Salford City College; and singer-songwriter Sam Seth, a University of Salford alumni.
The artists are engaging with communities from Age Friendly Salford, Salford Youth Zone, and music engineering students from University of Salford to create a record that celebrates Salford’s history, people and future.
Further details about the record release will be available soon.
From The Other (FTO) develops under-represented artists via distinctive live productions and innovative creative projects.
FTO celebrates ambitious ideas and creative risk; offering precious time and space for artists to develop work on our residencies and supporting selectors to showcase exciting talent at our music festivals.
Their projects connect partners from across the music industry, place-making, public sector, digital arts landscape and more; and through these collaborations we aim to create long-term benefits for everyone who co-creates with us.
Part of Salford 100, celebrating one hundred years of our city. Taking place across all of Salford and finishing with a fantastic finale this autumn.
